The South Jefferson Avenue widening project in Cookeville has taken a small step forward.
City Council has authorized the city manager to enter into contracts with TDOT to relocate utilities related to the project.
The contracts explain how Cookeville will pay TDOT to install electric, sewer, gas, and water for the project.
TDOT has worked for the past year to acquire about 100-tracts of land to widen 2.2. miles of the road to five lanes from Highway 111 to Interstate 40.
TDOT has scheduled construction to begin by 2021.
