Lawmakers Being Asked To Restore UCDD Funding

The Upper Cumberland Development District Executive Committee has approved a resolution asking state lawmakers to reconsider a funding cut they approved earlier this year.

Executive Director Mark Farley said the $19,000 cut slipped through a state subcommittee earlier this year.

“We had a legislature over in West Tennessee that had a pet project. He needed some money, and at the last minute worked in and took $174,000 away from all nine development districts and put it towards that project,” Farley said. “It worked out to be $19,000. That doesn’t kill us, but it was recurring and that won’t take long before it starts hurting us long range.”

The resolution requests state lawmakers to restore the $19,000 to each development district across the state.

“We’ve had meetings with Cameron Sexton and other legislators,” Farley said. “I’d like this board, if you would, to sign on to this letter to send to all of our legislative delegation.”

Farley said the state appropriation helps the UCDD operate and offset the match portions of administered grants.
