Jackson County has received state funding for planning future park developments.
County Mayor Randy Heady said the 10-year planning grant will analyze community needs.
“We have some populated areas in Jackson County that don’t have any type of parks,” Heady said. “This grant will actually look at that and give a plan in the next ten years of what needs to be done to establish a park there. They look at all the infrastructure that we have and what we can improve on or build going forward.”
County Commissioners accepted the $60,000 TDEC grant during last month’s meeting. Heady said the county will use the funding jointly with another planning grant for Roaring River Park.
“This grant is going to go right alongside it and help do some of the public awareness things that need to be done,” Heady said. ”
Heady said TDEC offered the pool of money to distressed counties across the state.
