A resolution approved Thursday allows Cookeville to receive reimbursement for certain projects associated with the new police headquarters.
Finance Director Brenda Imel said it’s a standard resolution the city uses before starting a large project.
“We do this as a safeguard in case we start spending money before we get the bonds issued,” Imel said. “It’s our intention to reimburse ourselves for any expenses that we do incur from the proceeds of the bonds.”
Cookeville City Council unanimously approved the resolution during Thursday night’s meeting. City Manager James Mills said earlier this week that council can expect to see funding resolutions for the new police station by October 17.
“We’ll be coming back with resolutions to seek funding to do the police department and other projects,” Mills said. “Right now, that’s what we are looking at, as far as scheduling.”
The city will build the new police station at the northeast corner of Neal Street and Old Walton Road. Construction will cost an estimated $14 million.
