Sparta’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen have delayed their decision to hire a new city administrator.
Mayor Jeff Young said that the city wasn’t sure how to move forward after conducting interviews Tuesday.
“We got it down to four applicants [from 12]. We did in-person interviews yesterday with the final two,” Young said. “We’re just not ready to make a hire yet, but hopefully we will soon.”
Young confirmed late Wednesday evening that current Algood City Administrator, Keith Morrison, removed himself from consideration.
The city interviewed Morrison and McMinnville Public Works Operation Manager Brad Hensley for the position.
Young said he wasn’t sure how soon the city would make a decision on who to hire and noted they simply needed more time.
“I think both were very good candidates, both brought a lot to the table,” Young said. “One brought a little more administrative experience, one with a little more public works experience, which both are extremely beneficial. They had offsetting qualities and either one of them would make a great asset to the city of Sparta.”
Sparta’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen next meet Thursday, June 20 at 5 p.m.
