Algood’s long-awaited sewer rehab project should get underway by July.
City Administrator Keith Morrison said he’s working to wrap up easement negotiations for the project.
“We’ve transitioned the line to work with some different directions and we’ve been obtaining some new easements,” Morrison said. “We’ve got some of those new easements already and are still working on a few. We’re working on finalizing now and we hope to be out to bid with this project by this summer.”
The $2.1 million project will expand sewer services to homes in the Brookside area. Main Street will see a new water line installed.
Morrison said there will be a slight change to the project after the city decided to move easements away from an Upper Cumberland power line.
“We’re gonna run that a different route and bring it just inside the city limits and adjust the line a little bit,” Morrison said. “It’s going to be a great benefit to the neighbors over there in the Old Walton area.”
The previous council approved the project in 2017 and the city began the easement phase last summer. City officials and engineers have worked to reach an agreement for three remaining easements since October.
Morrison said he expects the entire project to take between nine and 12 months to complete.
