Monterey Taco Bell Still Happening

Monterey residents shouldn’t be losing hope about getting a Taco Bell.

Mayor Bill Wiggins said the project remains alive despite a lengthy delay.

“I’m not in the business of squelching rumors, but folks, the Taco Bell is still going to happen,” Wiggins said. “I don’t want to reveal too much about my conversations with the bank, but all they said was bless lawyers hearts.”

Monterey officials announced last year that the restaurant would be built on Stratton Avenue near the Bank of Putnam County. Wiggins said developers have spent the past few months dealing with some legal issues.

“I think it concerned deeds,” Wiggins said. “but if you’ll drive by, you can see there’s some earth that’s been moved, so there’s some things happening there.”

The city had originally thought construction would begin in March with a grand opening taking place by mid-year.
