British Cave Diver Rescued in Jackson County

Emergency rescue crews have rescued a British cave diver trapped in Jackson County.

Officials released a statement Thursday evening saying Josh Bratchley of the United Kingdom was rescued just before 7 p.m.

Bratchley and four other diving team members had made the trip to Jackson County to explore a secluded underwater cave system earlier in the week.

However, Bratchley did not surface with his team Tuesday afternoon. The divers tried to rescue Bratchley themselves for several hours before contacting rescue officials around 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Specialized divers from Arkansas and Florida were flown in to assist in the search-and-rescue mission.

Bratchley refused medical treatment and was in stable condition when crews brought him back to the surface.

Officials will host a press conference at 9 p.m. at the Jackson County Rescue Squad headquarters in Gainesboro.
