Monterey Looking At Scaling Back Waterline Extension Project

Monterey officials might consider scaling back on plans to extend waterlines under Interstate 40.

Consulting engineer Nathaniel Green said that’s because the potential Appalachian Regional Commission grant funding will be less than the $412,500 that was anticipated.

“They (the state) came back with this email and they said they’re ‘pleased to inform you that your 2019 ARC pre-application has been recommended for funding by the governor,’ but in the amount of $300,000. That means we’d have to reduce that by $112,500 to get to what they are going to match with.”

Monterey still doesn’t know if it will receive any funding as a full application must be submitted by April 15th. Green will approach the board of mayor and aldermen about scaling back the project during the April 1 meeting.

Green will be approaching utility companies about possibly extending broadband, gas, and sewer to the area in the future.
