DEA Investigating Multiple Celina Pharmacies

The United States Drug Enforcement Administration is investigating pharmacies in Celina following reports of unusual patterns of pill purchases and drug distribution.

The DEA reports sales data indicates over 1.5 million pills were purchased by the pharmacies in 2017, an unusually high number for a rural area like Clay County.

Two pharmacies were issued notices of investigation by the DEA, including Anderson Hometown Pharmacy and Walgreens. An administrative inspection warrant has also been issued to Clay County Express Pharmacy.

The DEA reports investigations will examine receipts and distributions, interviews with employees, and pharmacy activities such as prescriptions.

Tennessee and Kentucky DEA investigators are looking into these cases with help from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and Tennessee Board of Pharmacy.
