Liquor Referendum Back On Fentress County Ballot

A referendum allowing liquor sales in Fentress County will appear on the November election ballot.

Faith Baptist Tabernacle Worship Pastor Steve Clark said he’s opposed to any liquor sales in Fentress County.

“The cost of having to deal with what alcohol can do to a society and culture far outweighs what kind of tax revenue we might get from it,” Clark said. “It just never seems to go the way they proclaim that it will go.”

Clark said alcohol ends up costing people far more in loss of life, damage to property, and increased law enforcement involvement.

“The Bible does say that wine is a mocker and it can cause a lot of problems,” Clark said.

Clark said he will discuss the measure with his congregation and plans to persuade other people to vote no.

The Fentress County Election Commission approved a petition for the ballot measure last week.

The same ballot measure was defeated by just 130 votes in November of 2016.

“It’s been tried before and each time it gets a little harder to vote it down,” Clark said.
