The calendar turns to August and that means the start to a new school year and plenty of high school pride across the communities of the Upper Cumberland.
This year, the stations of Stonecom Radio will join with Sam’s Club of the Upper Cumberland to launch the new school year with the Hometown Holler Kickoff Pep Rally. Fans, parents, students, and community supporters are invited to holler and scream for their favorite team.
“As they say, ‘It’s football time in Tennessee’ and there’s something special about our local communities and the way they support the area’s young people“ Sams Club Cookeville Manager Rob Holzer said. “Our team at Sam’s Club of Cookeville is proud to serve the region and be a part of this unique event.”
The Hometown Holler will celebrate school pride with a series of seven events during August. Events will be held in Byrdstown, Carthage, Celina, Cookeville, Crossville, Gainesboro, Jamestown, and Livingston.
The Cookeville event will feature a first-ever county celebration of Cookeville High School, Monterey High School and Upperman High School on the courthouse square.
Each night will feature games and activities leading up to the pep rally presented by Sam’s Club. Bouncies, Madden NFL video tournaments, football throws, helmet games and more will highlight the event. All of the pregame events are free for all ages.
Then, the football team, cheerleaders, the school band, and school administrators will take to the TCAT of Livingston and Crossville stage for an old-fashioned raise the roof pep rally. The rally will not only celebrate the football season but the start of the school year and the fall sports season.
TCAT will hand out free spirit items to help fans get in on the excitement – and remind students and parents of the opportunities provided at both Upper Cumberland Tennessee College of Applied Technology campuses.
Fans can also walk away with a spirit sign featuring the team schedule as well of that of the Vols and Titans, games you can hear on 106-9 Kicks Country.
Lite Rock 95.9, 106-9 Kicks Country, Rock 93-7 and News Talk 94.1, the stations of Stonecom, will broadcast live from each Hometown Holler and will emcee the event – and will give fans the chance to win prizes.

“Hometown Holler is part of our commitment to local sports coverage in the region,” Stonecom President Larry Stone. “We believe that this kind of local programming helps contribute to our local way of life – and showcases that small-town atmosphere that makes this such a special place to live.”
Stone, who started Titans Radio and led its programming and affiliate relations efforts across the mid south for 17 years, will again talk prep sports every Saturday morning at 9am on the High School Playbook. The show begins August 11 on Rock 93-7 with a second edition previewing that week’s games on Thursday nights at 6pm on News Talk 94.1/AM 1600.
Every week, local coaches and players will talk live about the Friday night action live from Cookeville’s Chick-fil-A. Shows feature five-to-seven of the region’s coaches every week with scores and highlights from every game in the Upper Cumberland.
Stonecom Radio operates 106-9 Kicks Country, Lite Rock 95.9, Rock 93-7 and News Talk 94.1/AM 1600. The stations serve the entire Upper Cumberland with local news, sports and weather, as well as community-centered programming and events.
