Less than a week after the Crossville City Council agreed to fund a fourth school resource officer, the officer has been hired.
Patrol Officer Scott VanRuden has been selected to fill the position. VanRuden will serve the Phoneix School, giving all four schools within the city limits an SRO.
VanRuden joined the Crossville Police Department in 2012. He has undergone approved POST training required to serve as a school resource officer, according to a police department release.
County Commissioners voted Monday night to work on hiring a fourth SRO as well.
