Low income senior residents now have an option to take care of home repairs. Putnam County Habitat for Humanity has launched their new Neighbor 2 Neighbor program.
In Putnam and Overton County, the program offers home repairs for low-income senior homeowners. Melissa Parks directs development for Putnam County Habitat for Humanity.
“We realized we get phone calls all the time from people who have problems with their house, but they can’t make repairs and they can’t afford to hire somebody,” Parks said. “We realized it is a big problem, so this is our attempt effort to try to at least alleviate some of the problem with those folks.”
Parks said the Neighbor 2 Neighbor program belongs uniquely to Putnam County Habitat for Humanity.
“Different affiliates across the nation have different repair programs.” Parks said, “We set this up with what we thought would work in our community.”
Putnam County Habitat for Humanity will hold a Neighbor 2 Neighbor Application Fair March 17 at Livingston’s Millard Oakley Public Library. Eligible projects include accessibility issues, weatherization, and other basic repairs.
The application is free. Repayment of repair costs depends on the owner’s income.
