Crossville Approves Acceptance Of Sewer Lines

The city of Crossville has approved a request to take over sewer lines serving three Cumberland County Schools.

Mayor James Mayberry said he had concerns about accepting the lines that serve South Cumberland, North Cumberland, and Brown Elementary schools.

“One concern I’ve got is us as a utility district running through the middle of another utility district. I don’t know if it’s legal to infringe on another utility district,” Mayberry said.

Mayberry said he also had concerns about the extra manpower it would take to run the operation.

“The future expense down the road plus the depreciation you have to fund on that, it just seems like a losing proposition to me,” Mayberry said. “I just don’t see how we can just take over somebody else’s potential problems.”

The council voted 3-2 to accept the lines with Mayberry and Councilman Scott Shanks voting no.

The board of education had recently voted to request the city to take over the operation of the lines.
