The Sparta Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved the first reading of a measure rezoning property near Findlay Elementary.
The property currently belongs to White County. The school district wants to use the property to build a new Findlay Elementary. Once the property is rezoned, the county and school district will trade properties.
Sparta City Recorder Tonya Tindle said the board will hold a public hearing and second vote on the rezoning at its next meeting.
