After the rain stops, homeowners have some work to do to keep the mosquito population low.
Putnam County UT Extension Agent Wayne Key said mosquitoes lay eggs in standing water.
“Especially after a rain like we’ve had, walk through, turn those things over, remove the water from them, because if mosquitoes have been there and laid their eggs, that’s a perfect nesting spot for them to hatch and to hibernate and become a nuisance again,” Key said.
Things like buckets, flower pots, toys and old tires can become a breeding ground quickly.
