State authorities have arrested a Smithville man in connection with a deadly hit-and-run incident in Coffee County Monday.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol has identified the suspect as Shelton G. Martin. Martin is accused of striking 78-year-old Arthur Mantone with his Mitsubishi Galant and leaving the scene. Mantone died at the scene and police later located Martin at a home in McMinnville.
Authorities said the incident happened as Mantone was walking across the street to check his mailbox. A side mirror from Martin’s vehicle was located at the scene. A tip later led police to a home on Alva Jones Road in Warren County where Martin was located and arrested.
Martin is being held at the Coffee County Jail.
